October 14, 2011 – According to reports by the personal injury lawyer at Ehline Law Firm PC, the contact lens recall that was issued nearly two months ago is now being taken more seriously. The recall of Avaira Toric contact lenses by CooperVision Inc. is being taken more seriously, since Friday when the Federal Food and Drug Administration issued a Class I recall warning.
The Class I warning comes after a nearly two month old recall for over a half a million contact lenses.
FDA official spokeswoman Morgan Liscinski stated that the FDA intends to monitor the recall after threatening CooperVision Inc. of Fairport, N.Y. that they would issue an independent notice of concern about the Avaira Toric contact lenses. The FDA believes that CooperVision Inc did not adequately publicize the recall and potential problems from an unidentified residue that was inadvertently left on during manufacturing.
The FDA demanded CooperVision Inc. to broaden the notification of the contact lens recall of 600,000.
Contact lens wearers reported hazy vision, discomfort, severe pain and eye injuries after wearing the recalled Avaira Toric contact, requiring medical treatment.
CooperVision Inc. and the Food and Drug Administration warn contact lens wearers to stop using the recalled lenses, return the defective product and if there are any symptoms suffered seek medical attention.
